The founder’s journey
Lakshman Pillai is the founder of Holistic Innovations Lab. His work explores human potential, holistic thinking and the choices that shape our shared future.
Born in a small farming village, Lakshman began his technology career at Wipro in 1989. His professional journey included enterprise technology work with Oracle APAC in Singapore, a Sun Microsystems assignment and work at Univel in Utah as part of Wipro R&D. He pioneered knowledge management and designed and developed a holistic knowledge management system connecting content management, personalised learning, talent management, enterprise collaboration and work execution. Across these experiences, he saw how technology could expand what organisations and people were able to do.
That progress also led him to a deeper question: as technology becomes more capable, how can people and the systems around them become wiser? He became increasingly interested in the conditions that help individuals learn, workplaces create value, education unlock potential and societies move forward together.
A connected vision for human progress
Holistic Innovations Lab grew from this way of thinking. Many challenges are treated as isolated issues, even though they are shaped by connected people, institutions and conditions. The Lab looks beyond symptoms, brings the wider picture into view and explores sensible responses with the potential for lasting impact.
This perspective informs The Next Humanity, which asks how AI can amplify rather than replace human intelligence, and the WISE ecosystem, which connects Workplace, Individual, Society and Education. Smipio One brings this WISE vision to life as a digitally WISE ecosystem, helping people understand themselves, keep learning, grow with purpose and contribute their best at work and in life.
Alongside this work, Lakshman writes about personal transformation, human intelligence, education, technology and India’s future. His books and ideas share a common purpose: helping people and societies realise more of their human potential.

Lakshman has delivered thought-provoking talks at colleges and institutions on topics including “Script Your Own Story of Success,” “Rethinking Entrepreneurship,” and Knowledge Management.
He has created microlearning courses to unlock human intelligence and drive transformation in education and the workplace.
